Getting Started With the Foursquare iPhone App – Setting Up the Foursquare App on Your iPhone
Foursquare is a relatively new social networking hybrid, which mixes the traditional social networking platform with something which is also a location-based game. Setting up Foursquare on your iPhone is a quick and easy process – this article will tell you all you need to know to get started with the Foursquare app and how you can use it on your phone.
What is Foursquare?
Foursquare is a social networking tool that is used primarily on mobile phones. When you are out-and-about you can use your phone’s GPS to identify where you are. On Foursquare, a list of venues in your vicinity will appear – you can then ‘check in’ wherever you are.
What makes this tool so fun and addictive is that the more you ‘check in’ to different venues, the more ‘badges’ you can earn on Foursquare. If you check in to a venue more than anyone else on Foursquare, then you will be given the title of Foursquare ‘mayor’ of that venue. This could mean that if you are a coffee addict for example, you could end up as the Foursquare mayor of your local Starbucks!
How do I use Foursquare?
Whilst it is possible to use the Foursquare website, or the mobile website, the best functionality comes with the Foursquare iPhone app. It couldn’t be easier to set up Foursquare on your iPhone. Simply go to the App Store on your iPhone, and search for Foursquare. The app is free, so simply download it.
You can then create an account on Foursquare by following the instructions. To get started, select ‘Places’ on the Foursquare iPhone app – the app should then use your phone’s GPS in order to find your location.
If it says ‘Locating’ but cannot locate you, then you will need to ensure that your iPhone GPS settings are enabled.
You can then use Foursquare on your iPhone – have fun!
