Nokia N8 hands-on demo of Check-in for Ovi Maps. Share your location on Facebook, Twitter and more

04 Jul
thenokiablog asked:

Jennifer Altgen, Product Manager of Check-in for Ovi Maps, gives us a demo of Nokia’s location sharing solution on the Nokia N8. With Check-in you can manually share where you are and what you are up to with your friends on Facebook, Twitter and many others such as RenRen and StudiVZ. If you don’t like sharing your location, you can use it to collect personal stats and history of all the places you’ve been visiting. In the place pages of the venues you are at, you can see who how many people checked in with you. Check-in for Ovi Maps does not automatically check you in with Foursquare or Facebook’s own check-in system, but Nokia is looking to integrate that in the future.

Claiming Your Nonprofit’s Facebook Places Page

19 Jun
johnshaydon asked:

If you’re interested in using Facebook Places to engage with your local constituants, you need to first claim your Facebook Places Page. The benefit of claiming your Facebook Places Page is having the ability to publish content to those who have checked into your Place. For example, let’s say that at your next fundraising event, you have attendees check in via Facebook Places. If you’ve claimed your Place, you can publish post-event stories on the attendees news feeds.

How Coffee Klatch is Using Foursquare to Create a Story

16 Jun
notixtech asked:

Foursquare is a location-based mobile social network that exists thanks to today’s smartphone . If Twitter lets you share your status, Foursquare lets you share your location. You check-in at businesses and friends can see when and where you check in. These are your friends on Foursquare, Facebook, and Twitter depending on how you have it set up. Foursquare initially started with game mechanics. Users collect points and virtual badges by checking in and leaving tips with venues. Businesses can use Foursquare to obtain, engage, and retain customers. In 2010, Foursquare grew 3400%. They boasted 381 million total check-ins. So this is Coffee Klatch. Coffee Klatch’s award winning coffees are created as a result of nurturing relationships with local farmers who grow the beans. The Klatch believes that their art begins right where the seeds are planted. They travel the globe to ensure the quality first-hand at each harvest. All of this is accomplished through a Direct Trade model and simple handshake. So what? Coffee Klatch took a risk. They jumped into untested waters and they created a unique story for me. A story which started with an experience that I thought was worth sharing. The result is fascinating and is only a small glimpse of what smartphones have done to our world. So what’s the story? Let me tell you. Coffee Klatch tried something that few other businesses have. It’s a Foursquare promotion. Check in 5 times at Coffee Klatch and get your coffee half off. Cool, I
